You can buy tickets at the station. If you do not want to spend a lot of time at the counter or at the vending machine at the station, you can buy internet tickets. There are some shuttle buses running between Rome and Fiumicino airport. Their stop is at the end of the arrivals level of the terminal 3. Information displays indicate the departure times of the shuttle buses. Most of the lines go to Termini station, some of them stop at Ostiense station or Piazza Cavour near the Vatican. The cost of the shuttle bus is around 6 euros per person and route.
The journey time by bus between Fiumicino airport and Rome takes up to one hour depending on the traffic situation. Due to difficult traffic conditions, irregularities can occur during departures.
The SIT bus, which you can book here, stops at Termini Station in Via Marsala 5. It also stops behind Castel Sant’Angelo in Via Crescenzio and in western Rome on Via Aurelia, near the Cornelia metro station. First departure from Termini is at 4:45am, last departure at 8:30pm. First departure from Fiumicino is at 6:45am, last departure at 11:45pm.
For the journey by public transport you need time, patience and a certain ability to suffer.
The regional bus operator COTRAL is a member of the Metrebus consortium. The bus stop is located on the arrivals level at terminal 2 of Fiumicino airport. Regional Metrebus tickets are valid for these buses. You can buy a single ticket at the bus. The trip to Rome are three zones with the regional ticket.
From the Metrebus regional tickets, the COTRAL lines to Termini station and to Tiburtina station are excluded.
Another connection is line FL1, which runs on a ring track around Rome with destination Fara Sabina. Unfortunately, this line often leads to delays and failures. The ticket to Rome is 8 euros. Children up to the age of 12 accompanied by a paying adult are free.
If you live in the Roman periphery, the line FL1 may be a good alternative to the connections to Termini Station.
Tickets for the Leonardo Express and for the line FL1 are available at the station and have to be validated before the trip starts.
Tickets bought on the internet are bound to a specific train and do not have to be validated. You can show the ticket sent to you by e-mail on the smartphone or print it out. The ticket is valid for a total of 4 hours.
Fast train connections
From Fiumicino airport there are two express trains a day to Venice, type “Frecciargento” – silver arrow, with stops in Florence, Bologna and Padua. A reservation is required for these trains.
The tickets for the express trains have seat reservation. These tickets should be booked on the Internet or at your travel agency. In the case of a saver ticket for the express trains, it is usually not possible to make a change.

Do not rely on people who are at the airport exit and offer their services.
Official taxis are located at the taxis in front of the terminals 1 and 3. The taxis are painted white and have a taxi sign on the roof. Note the name of the taxi or the license number.
Taxis can also be ordered by app or by phone. These taxis have a arrival time of 5-10 minutes and wait for you at the exit in front of terminal 2.
For the trip to Rome you should only use taxis of the municipality of Rome, as the tariffs are cheaper. Taxis belonging to the municipality of Fiumicino are more expensive. Short trips, eg from the airport to the town of Fiumicino, are however not accepted by the taxis of the municipality of Rome and you must have a taxi for the short distance assigned.
From Fiumicino airport to Civitavecchia the best is over the highway. If you have to go to a ship, we recommend you book a limousine service or a pick-up transfer.
You can also take the train to Civitavecchia. The train to Civitavecchia departs from Termini station and stops at several train stations in Rome. If you come by the line FL1 from Fiumicino, you can change at Rome Trastevere station.
The walk from Civitavecchia station to the ship is about 30 minutes.
