The City of Rome has issued a red alert for a heatwave until Wednesday, June 24, 2026. The Civil Protection (Protezione Civile) is asking residents and tourists to follow recommendations to safely cope with the high temperatures.

  • Drink plenty of water throughout the day
  • Avoid direct sun exposure
  • Skip outdoor sightseeing during the hottest hours between 11 AM and 5 PM
  • Use public drinking fountains to cool down

Rome offers over 2,500 drinking fountains where you can refill your water bottle for free. One of the most charming is the Lovers’ Fountain near the Trevi Fountain.
